Group Dog Training Classes
In our group dog training classes you and your dog will learn the principles of training in a controlled environment, where your dog learns to focus on you in the company of other dogs, and you learn how to manage and train your dog with varying levels of distraction.
Class Location
Sunday, Monday and Wednesday classes are held at Dog Days of New York located at: 2581 Broadway (northwest corner of 97th and Broadway) 2nd floor - entrance mid-block.
Tuesday classes are held at Mutt Hutt located at 238 West 72nd Street.
Basic 1
This class is open to puppies and older dogs - 12 weeks and up. Learn how to use timing, rewards, and clear signals to influence your dog's behavior. Have a dog who happily races to you when you call, walks nicely at your side, and settles quietly when you need him to. Other topics covered in this course include sit, lie down, off, don't jump, and drop it.

You will also teach your dog to "leave it" --- to not touch and in fact take his focus away from things you ask him not to touch.

Canine Good Citizen (CGC)
Our CGC Class will prepare you and your dog for certification through the AKC's Canine Good Citizen test. The test will be administered on the last day of class. The CGC program provides an excellent foundation for more advanced training, such as therapy dog training or training for competition sports, including Rally, Obedience, and Agility. CGC certification is of equal benefit to companion dogs, because co-op boards, hotels, and insurance companies will often take it into account when deciding whether to accept your dog. The test items include being greeted, petted, and groomed by a friendly person without jumping up or other unruly behavior; remaining under control while greeting another person with a dog; walking on a loose leash with distractions; performing three basic behaviors (sit, down, and stay); and remaining calm during a supervised separation from you.
