Founded on Manhattan's Upper West Side in 1992, Follow My Lead has been one of the foremost schools addressing the special training needs of the urban dog.  Follow My Lead is owned by Phyllis Couvares, who is an accomplished professional dog trainer committed to reward-based dog training. She works with dogs of different sizes, ages, breeds, and temperaments. Her understanding of canine behavior, along with the depth of her experience and insight, means she can offer a variety of up-to-date solutions for your dog training issues.

Phyllis' keen observation and skillful handling have been developed over a 30 year career. She has a remarkable ability to teach owners how to overcome the frustrations that sometimes keeps them from fully enjoying their dogs. She teaches people how to effectively communicate with and motivate their dogs so that they end up with a dog who truly listens

Phyllis is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) and a Professional Member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (ADPT).

 

Nancy Field, CPDT-KA

Nancy is an independent trainer who regularly teaches the specialty classes (CGC, Rally, Tricks) that Follow My Lead offers. In addition to being a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Nancy is an Approved Evaluator for the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test, and an Authorized Mentor for Animal Behavior College. She has been a professional member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) since 1997.

Nancy is committed to force-free, reward-based training methods. She continues to deepen and expand her knowledge of evolving training methods through extensive reading and by attending numerous seminars and workshops covering a wide range of training topics.

Nancy has competed in rally and obedience trials with her Labrador Retriever, Emma (Legacy’s Mrs. Peel, RL2. CD-C) and has also trained Emma for agility competition.
